The hideout is a national website for children and young people to inform about domestic violence and help them identify whether it is happening in their home. The site provides indirect and informal support to children and young people living with domestic violence or to those who may want to help a friend.

SHE Helpline

SHE was set up in 1989 to reduce the number of calls that were necessary to find bedspace in a women's refuge. The service was operated by Southend Women's Aid and covered the Essex refuges only.

In 1997, the service was transferred to the Dove Project, a community-based outreach project offering a range of services to women and their children who have suffered domestic violence and abuse.

The SHE helpline now covers refuges in Essex, Kent, East London and East Anglia, as well as holding information about how to access refuges in other parts of the UK.

SHE can:

• Help you access refuge bedspace or suggest alternative emergency measures if refuge space cannot be located
• Advise and inform you of women's rights in relation to domestic violence
• Put women in touch with their local refuge group for details of support services available in their local area
• Give information about the range of Dove Project services including drop-in, counselling, group therapy, legal surgery and support for children
