Julie Lowe is embarking on a gruelling cycle ride on the 11th to the 25th October to raise funds for the Kernos Centre in Sudbury.
"Those of you that know me well will know that I have Never done anything remotely like this before, and how great a challenge it will be for me. I’ve never been to Vietnam or Cambodia , so I am really looking forward to that, but I am feeling more than slightly anxious about the cycling- it will be hot (30 degrees-ish), very humid, and rainy. We will cover 350 miles in eight days; the longest day’s cycle will be 65 miles, and I am hoping (possibly in vain) that there will be no hills", said Julie.
Although 48 year old Julie comes from Great Barfield in Essex she said ‘I have chosen the Kernos Centre because I know they do a magnificent job, and being a small local charity they operate on a shoestring, with no statutory funding, so I know my efforts will be appreciated.’
The Kernos Centre was opened in April 2003. It provides counselling and support services for people with emotional and psychological difficulties. The centre offers counselling to anyone in need, adults adolescents or children; unlike other counselling services they don’t limit the number of sessions offered, nor turn anyone away because of financial constraints. However raising sufficient funds to provide the service is always a struggle.
"The costs of the trip have already been paid for, so every penny donated will go straight to the charity", said Annabel Wyatt the Administrator. Anyone who would like to donate or sponsor Julie can do so either at the Centre or by going on-line www.justgiving.com
