As from the 1st August the Kernos Centre is now able to add people to its much reduced waiting list.
This coincides with the Kernos Centre re-opening for referrals for adults who need counselling support from the 1st August. The waiting list had become so long in January this year that the Kernos Centre was only able to take on new referrals for adolescents - because this work was funded by the Suffolk Foundation.
However because of funding gained from the Golf Day, from Suffolk Single Gateway and Babergh District Council the waiting list for adults has been significantly reduced and Kernos is now able once more to offer counselling support to both adults and young people.
“It has been distressing this year not being able to respond to the needs of the community by providing low-cost or no-cost counselling to those who needed it” said administrator Annabel Wyatt “but finding sources of funding from within the community, such as The Saracens Head, Waitrose, Golden Harvest, Sudbury Town Council and local Parish Councils has made such a difference that we now do not have to turn people away.”
“This is a really good example of the community giving and supporting services to those who need them most“ said Jenny Ager, Fundraiser who is at present organising a charitable fundraising Kernos Car Boot sale on the 23rd August. “Watch this space”, says Jenny!
