Jenny Ager - Volunteer fundraiser at Kernos Centre - ran a successful Golf event at the Saracen’s Head, Newton Green on Monday 13th July. The event raised £976 to support our work . We would like to thank Theresa Symons of the Saracens Head who donated all of the profits from the golf day and evening meal to the Kernos Centre.
“We value the funding support given by Theresa Symons and all the golfers and supporters, which enables us to fulfil our mission of offering emotional and psychological help regardless of a client’s financial means” said Jenny. “Theresa held the event in memory of her husband, Berni Symons and was pleased to support our Charity in a very practical way.”
This coincides with the Kernos Centre re-opening from the 1st August - for referrals for adults who need counselling support . The waiting list had become so long in January this year, and funding so limited, that the Kernos Centre was only able to take new referrals for adolescents, for which we are funded by the Suffolk Foundation.
However, because of funding such as that raised by the golfing day, from Suffolk Single Gateway, and Babergh District Council the waiting list for adults has been significantly reduced and Kernos is now once more able to offer counselling support to both adults and young people.
“It has been distressing this year not being able to respond to the needs of the community by providing low-cost or no-cost counselling to those who needed it” said administrator Annabel Wyatt “but finding sources of funding from within the community, such as The Saracens Head, Waitrose, Golden Harvest, Sudbury Town Council and local Parish Councils, has made such a difference that now we don't have to turn people away.”
“This is a really good example of the community giving and supporting services to those who need them most “ said Jenny who is at present organising a charitable fundraising Kernos Car Boot sale on the 23rd August. “Watch this space”, says Jenny!
