Libby Purves supports the Kernos Centre’s work at our 5th Anniversary Celebration

Over 80 people filled the Masonic Hall back in October to celebrate Kernos’ 5th anniversary. BBC Radio 4’s Libby Purves was our guest speaker. She spoke about the need for greater support for people coping with mental illness. Ms Purves, a Suffolk resident, recalled an incident in which a close friend had pleaded for counselling support for her adolescent son - during an emergency telephone call - only to be told there would be a three month wait.

Waiting list suspended until we can get clients seen.

Kernos has had to take unpresidented action to close the waiting list to low cost counselling until our waiting list is reduced.

Director of counselling Chris Boatwright has said "Due to severe demands on our service we have had to close the list, however this could all change if more funding was available to recruit more counsellors to see the overspill". "Our services have never been more in demand" said Chris.

Fundraising Volunteers URGENTLY needed!

Kernos currently has too many people on its waiting list - and the average waiting time is six months. Counselling should be available as soon as it is needed but we are on a permanent search for grants and donations in order to fulfil our philosophy of welcoming all clients, whatever their financial means.

" We had great fun as a family finding the answers. I would like to say what a great job you all do in helping those with emotional needs, who otherwise would receive no help from the NHS."
